Our 2024 Grand Opening Season
Academia Nuts – Gregg Kreutz
CLOSED
Professor Peter Smedforson lives in a quiet New England college town, in the former home of poet E.R. Lennox whose writings are the subject of his scholarly life’s work. Reclusive Peter finds his sedate life suddenly turned upside down when his home is invaded by Tammi, a free spirit from Atlantic City whose luck has run out; Judith, another Lennox scholar determined to unearth a lost manuscript in his home; and by Stewart, Judith’s reprehensible ex-husband who is trying to beat her to the manuscript. The discovery of said manuscript and the revelation of its surprising secret provide a hilarious climax to this urbane and quick witted comedy.
The Man from Stratford – adapted by Dee O’Brien
September 19th – October 6th
We happy few, we band of four women and four men play multiple parts in this TheatreFor production. An original idea conceived, directed, and costumed by our very own Dee O’Brien, in this mash-up of Shakespeare’s tragedies. And for some light-heartedness we have Tom Stoppard’s Fifteen Minute Hamlet with all eight performers playing a ghost, a best friend, an onlooker, a king, a queen, an idealist, his girlfriend, her father, her brother, and a gravedigger. All of these scenes are introduced by the Man from Stratford himself and his Scribe. An ideal sampling for both lovers of the Bard and those who know little beyond “…a rose by any other name…”!
Red Hot Patriot: The Kick Ass Wit of Molly Ivins – Margaret Engel, Allison Engel
October 23rd – November 3rd
Molly Ivins, the brassy Texan reporter whose liberal journalism skyrocketed her to the national stage. From writing Elvis Presley’s New York Times obituary to becoming the most widely-read self-proclaimed “pain in the ass to whatever powers come to be,” Ivins, often described as a modern-day Mark Twain, made rabid fans and enemies alike with her sharp-tongued humor and unabashed political criticism. This acclaimed show captures the six foot tall, redheaded Texan’s indomitable character by weaving personal anecdotes with her colorful take on national politics in a remarkably prescient way.
Desdemona, a play about a handkerchief – Paula Vogel
November 14th – December 1st
Come witness Desdemona, where Shakespeare’s classic tale gets a bawdy, irreverent twist. Unravel the mystery. Behold the transformation. Prepare to be shocked, amused, and deeply moved by these daring women.
The question remains: What about the handkerchief?
